I couldn't help but think I was witnessing the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, or perhaps the grand opening of a Car Dealership. The only thing missing were the searchlights slashing across the night sky. But you have to remember that millions of citizens read "People" magazine and just love the ersatz drama. As in ancient Rome, the people must have their circuses.
